What is MARCH?

Management and Awareness of Risks of Cytotoxic Handling (MARCH) is an expert online resource developed by the MARCH panel and sponsored by Teva Hospitals. MARCH aims to:

  • Improve safety standards when handling hazardous drugs
  • Guide, educate and help protect healthcare professionals and patients against unnecessary exposure to potentially harmful compounds

The MARCH panel is a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals chaired by Professor Graham Sewell, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at Kingston University.

The MARCH guidelines are central to the MARCH website. They aim to promote best practice when working with potentially hazardous compounds and are intended for use within a range of healthcare settings.

All guidelines are constructed from the best available evidence and expert opinion from the MARCH panel.

Some of the areas currently covered by the guidelines include:

  • Preparation
  • Administration
  • Transport
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Incident reporting
  • Spillage
  • Cleaning
  • Staff monitoring
  • Waste disposal
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Home care

Please visit the MARCH website for a comprehensive view of all MARCH topics.
