We are continually striving to improve safety for you and your patients. We recognise that our products and packaging are an integral part of this mission. As a result, we aim to continually improve the design of our packaging to help you with product selection and use.

During 2006 and 2007, Teva Hospitals worked closely with the NHS and regulatory authorities to improve clarity and communication for the safe and accurate use of our medicines.

Our new packaging, which will be standardised across a wide range of products, employs careful use of colour to aid product and concentration differentiation. The improved visual communication of critical information will help to reduce dispensing errors.

What are the key design elements of Teva packaging?

Teva’s packaging uses a number of unique design elements to help you quickly identify the individual product:

  • Each drug is assigned a specific colour
  • Colour is used to highlight important information such as drug name, concentration, description and warnings
  • The packaging is simple in its use of colour
  • Coding is systematic, consistent and logical

How are the drugs packed?

In addition to TevaGuard, we also pack all our potentially hazardous drug vials very carefully in readiness for safe shipment to you.

To avoid accidental damage to our hazardous vials during transit, we pack them securely using bubble wrap into an appropriately sized box.

Our packing materials are carefully selected to ensure minimum particulate contamination is introduced to the injectable range of medicines we supply.

To avoid any further spread of potential hazardous drug contamination, and to reduce exposure to the operator unpacking the delivery, we include a pair of gloves in the top of every box to aid safe unpacking.

Are cytotoxic drugs supplied separately to non-cytotoxic drugs?

To avoid cross-contamination, cytotoxic and non-cytotoxic drugs are packed separately. All boxes containing cytotoxic drugs are clearly labelled with ‘Handle with care, contains cytotoxics’ using bright yellow tape for easy identification.
