A major development resulting from our focus on safety is the Tevadaptor® system. This easy-to-use system allows for safe compounding and administration of injectable drugs. It eliminates spills and leakage of hazardous drug substances by safely preparing and transferring the drug into a mini bag or a syringe and its subsequent administration to the patient. It effectively eliminates the risks of needle stick injury.
What is Tevadaptor®?
Tevadaptor® is a novel closed system device that helps limit operator exposure to hazardous products during compounding and administration.
Why should I use Tevadaptor®?
Handling of hazardous drugs may be associated with serious health risks and there is evidence of surface contamination in preparation and administration areas.
The Tevadaptor® device offers additional protection to healthcare professionals in comparison with conventional open system connections by:
- Containing hazardous drugs
- Limiting environmental contamination
- Featuring a fully enclosed needle
How does Tevadaptor® work?
Tevadaptor® features a 0.2 micron membrane in combination with a charcoal filter. Together they prevent the release of aerosols and drug particles from vials into the surrounding environment and ensure that air filtered into the vial is sterile.
Tevadaptor® also features a fully enclosed needle therefore preventing needlestick injuries. An important part of a needlestick prevention programme includes elimination of unnecessary use of needles, and implementation of safety devices.
The closed system provides a protective barrier between the operator and the hazardous drug at all times. Tevadaptor®’s universal luer lock connections should ensure ease of use with any standard vials, bags and syringes and will adapt to fit the majority.
Tevadaptor® automatically equalises vial pressure during use so no manual operation is required.
